Treatment depends on the severity and location of the decay. In the early stages, your dentist may recommend professional cleaning, improved oral hygiene, fluoride treatment, and dietary changes to help strengthen the tooth and prevent further damage.
When a cavity has formed, the decayed portion of the tooth is carefully removed and restored with a filling, helping to rebuild the tooth’s shape and function while maintaining a natural appearance.
If decay has progressed deeper and affected the tooth’s nerve or pulp, root canal treatment may be required to remove the infection, relieve discomfort, and preserve the natural tooth. In cases where the tooth is severely damaged and cannot be restored, extraction may sometimes be necessary.
Regular dental check-ups allow decay to be detected and treated early, often before symptoms develop. Early treatment can help preserve more of your natural tooth structure and reduce the risk of more extensive procedures.
